In-between rehearsals and publicity shots, Adam continued to deal with the formation of the Enivel Foundation. This meant numerous daily calls and faxes back and forth to Jackson Howell. Adam was warming to Howell since Howell had demonstrated a desire to learn more about Eunice and Sammy’s life together. Maybe it was a ploy to keep the Enivel Foundation’s legal business, but for now, it wasn’t something Adam had time to worry about if he was going to see that Eunice’s wishes were honored and carried out. Consumed by his new life at the Americana, Adam sometimes wished he didn’t have the responsibility of overseeing Eunice’s desires. But she’d handpicked him to create her legacy. He couldn’t let her down.
Adam loved Vegas — the 24-hour a day action, the people-watching, the whole scene. In the past, Vegas had been a twice-a-year pilgrimage for some rest and relaxation, gambling, and partying. This trip was all business. He hadn’t spent any time outside the Americana; he hadn’t even played one hand of blackjack. It didn’t matter; he was too exhausted anyway.
After another long session with the newly expanded Swing Daddies, Adam dragged himself to his room, counting the seconds until he could stand under a hot shower and then fall into bed with a good cable movie. When he opened the door to his room, he noticed a hotel envelope had been slipped under it. Inside was a fax from Jackson Howell:
