“I’m going after her,” Shawna stated with conviction.
“What are you gonna to say?”
“I don’t know.”
Jen dabbed at her eyes, forcing back the tears until the other woman in the powder room exited. The last thing she needed was some society-bred phony consoling her. Once the coast was clear, the tears flowed freely. Then the door flew open. Shawna was on a mission.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” she asked gently.
“Nothing. I’m sorry. Just, please, I’m not in the mood to talk right now.”
“Well, I think we have to. Do any of these tears involve Adam Winter?”
“I’m going to throw up.” Jen dashed to the nearest stall and gagged.
“Does that mean ‘yes’? Are you the one who left him for a job here?”
Jen emerged from the stall. Who are you?”
“I’ll explain later. Are you over him?”
“I was never over him. I don’t want to be over him…I’m sorry, if you’re dating him, I mean…”
“That’s all you needed to say. There’s something you need to collect tonight…in Las Vegas. Your plane leaves in 90 minutes,” Shawna said, handing Jen a ticket. “He gave it to me. I wasn’t sure what flight I could catch, so he used frequent flier miles. Switch it to your name and go.” Now Shawna was crying.
“I can’t do that to you. I don’t even know you. I left him and he found you and he obviously wants to be with you.”
