“It requires several women, but only one or two quality ones. Thus, it’s more attainable. In one’s rotation, there should ideally be two starters, two middle relievers, and two closers. This way, you could always be working on your top talent, while still being able to have sex while you’re waiting for the starters to become superstars.”
“So I’m supposed to have six girls in rotation? Do you know how hard that is?”
“That’s what separates the great managers from the mediocre ones. What I’m trying to do now is cultivate two starters — top-quality talents that can take me all the way to marriage, happiness, love, and kids. It’s always smart to be developing two at the same time, in case one demands a trade or turns out not to be as great as you thought prior to the draft.”
“What happens if one of my starters turns out to be so great that I only want to pitch her in every game?” Adam inquired.
“Then you release the rest of the team, but we’re not there yet. Now while you’re developing the starters, you want one or two middle relievers who can play in the absence of a starter. But middle relievers are unpredictable since they are free agents looking to become starters for someone else’s team. Once they know they will never crack your starting lineup, they’re out speaking to other clubs. A lot of these middle relievers are starter quality, but they may not possess the exact formula you need to make your team a winner. You hope that maybe within time, you can mold them and change the way you feel about their talent, so you keep them in the lineup. You don’t want to lose them, because you’d hate to see them become superstars for someone else, but you know that promises of a starting job will only work so long.”
“I can’t believe I’m hearing this!” Adam laughed. It was so ridiculous that it actually made sense.
“All guys do it. You do it. Take Megan. She’s your closer. The closer is always available to end the game. The closer knows she doesn’t have a chance of being your starter, but likes being on your team so much she’s willing to be stuck in the closer’s role. No matter when you call on the closer, she’s ready to finish off the game for you.”
