“God, you’re right. When you put it in those terms, I feel kind of bad.”
“Well, it’s how I think a lot of us are, while we search for the ultimate starter.”
“Rob, you missed the boat by not majoring in philosophy.”
“So, are you still letting Megan close for you?”
“Every once in awhile. Hey, I’m pretty up front about my expectations and desires, but it’s as if she doesn’t hear them. I get a lot of, ‘So, what you’re trying to say is that you’re not ready to have a girlfriend,’ which, of course, pisses me off because I know she isn’t listening to one word I say.”
“Sounds like you better start shopping around for a solid starter — no more minor leaguers.”
“I’m trying. It’s complicated. Really complicated. Sometimes middle relievers have so much baggage when you get them that it’s hard to shed it all.”
“It’s hard to make a middle reliever a starter, Adam.”
“I know, but what about when you can see the potential? Is it worth some extra coaching?”
“Shit…I don’t know. I haven’t developed it that far yet. Do you have something going on that you’ve neglected to tell me?”
“I sort of have this thing for a client. Who, as it turns out, is fifty percent of my client base at the moment.”
“Hello…411? Yes, I’d like the number for the State Ethics Board, please. You shouldn’t go there.”
“It’s not like that. It’s not just a sex thing. I have feelings for her.”
“Like love?”
