“I read about something like that here in our temple’s newsletter,” Sandi said.

“Adam, you should give that a try. What do you have to lose?” Burt asked.

Adam felt like saying “only my dignity,” but since Jeremy and Suzanne met that way, all he said was “it’s not my thing.”

“What’s wrong with going to the synagogue and meeting some single Jewish women? Stepping foot into that place more than once a year wouldn’t kill you, you know.”

“It killed Hy Rosen,” Adam answered.

“That was different,” Burt said. “He had a bad heart, and his doctor told him not to dance the Hora at his niece’s wedding.”

“Suzanne, maybe you know a nice Jewish girl in Detroit for Adam. It isn’t that far from here and we have plenty of frequent-flier miles,” Sandi said.

The ambush was underway.

“Would you be open to it?” Suzanne asked Adam.

“Only if she’s like you,” Adam said, even though he really didn’t mean it. “Maybe. I guess it would depend on the person.”

“We’ll seat you and Jeremy at the head table at the wedding if you can make a match,” Sandi joked.

“Boy, I’m glad I never have to go through this again,” Jeremy finally chimed in.

“Do you date Jewish women?” Suzanne asked.

“Sure, I guess. I’ve dated plenty of them in the past. But you can’t help who you fall in love with.”
