A Good Breakup Song & Reading Saturn Return will Mend Your Broken Heart
We’ve all been dumped. Sometimes by people we actually love. The first step in recovering is to play some classic break up songs and curse the loser under your breath (sorry for editorializing).
In the novel Saturn Return , Adam Winter gets dumped by someone he actually loves. Writing about getting dumped is a lot more fun than actually getting dumped. The ability to live another’s heartache and revel in the fact that it wasn’t mine was kind of a fun guilty pleasure (these are my characters and I can do whatever I want to them). I felt like the interviewer in the back of the limo on The Bachelor.
Below are some of the great break-up songs of all time. Some, like Band of Gold and I Will Survive, make you want to hit the gym and get in phenomenal shape for the next time you see your ex. Others like Didn’t We Almost Have It All make you feel like stuffing your face with pizza (or Gino’s Pizza Rolls), candy, ice cream and all the other “I-hate-myself-for-eating-this” foods.
